Sahil Nayyar Clinches 2024 Pan American Open Snooker Championship

As we celebrate PABSA’s 20th year of existence, we have witnessed snooker interest and standards in the region, which comprises countries across the North and South American continents, attain new heights as exemplified in the 2024 Pan American Open Snooker Championship.

Sahil Nayyar, of Indian origin and representing Canada, has emerged victorious in the championship rising above the rest of the field with representation from Brazil, Canada and USA. He defeated the recently crowned 2024 Pan American Senior Snooker Champion, Fabio Anderson Luersen from Brazil, with a commanding score of 5-1 in the final.

The championship, held from October 9 to 13, 2024, at La Bande O’ Coin in Saint-Lambert, Canada, grants the winner a coveted two-year WST tour card starting in the 2025-26 season.

Nayyar while displaying impressive skills had a shaky start, winning four out of six matches in his group D. He advanced to the knockout stage, where he triumphed over Tommy Kollins from the US (3-1), Canada’s Wei Gao (4-2), Andy McCloskey from USA (4-0), and Floyd Ziegler from Canada (4-0) before facing Luersen in the final.

The match began with Sahil dominating, taking the first three frames effortlessly, including a notable break of 81 in the second frame. Although Fabio made a strong attempt to recover in the fourth frame with a break of 41, Sahil quickly countered with a break of 55, extending his lead to 4-0.

Fabio managed to secure the fifth frame with a break of 48, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. Sahil responded with a break of 47 in the sixth frame, sealing his victory in the 2024 PABSA Open Snooker Championship and securing his WST tour card for the upcoming two years.

Victor Sarkis, who has been representing PABSA as a professional in the WST Pro Tour for the last 2 years by having won the Championship in 2022, earned the highest break prize by constructing a 137 in his earlier round match.
