PABSA Q Tour 2024, Leg 2 Results – Hasanain Khalid Alsultani crowned Winner
The second leg of the PABSA Q Tour 2024 was held at the PABSA Academy in San Jose, USA, from February 22nd to 25th. The tournament featured 28 players from across the Pan American region, competing for a place in the Q Tour Global Finals. Hasanain Khalid Alsultani, who is originally from Iraq, now lives at Sacramento, California and trains at Aryan Snooker and Billiards, took the winner’s trophy and booked a ticket to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Q Tour Global Finals to be held from March 13 to 15, 2024. Hasanain has many accomplishments at the National and International level in Snooker, calling it a ‘dream’ to be able to represent the USA at the world stage.
The first round of matches saw some notable close matches with a 4-3 frames margin, with Sanaullah Ansari defeating Nathan Cottam, Leo Ma defeating Nick Cohen and Tan Jeremy Tandiary overcoming local player Ahmad Shekib Nawabi. However, the favorites largely prevailed, with Kirubanandh Rajendran, Amit Karki, Raymond McCarthy, Nitin Mehta and Sam McGrath all reaching the second round. The ultimate winner of the tournament Hasanain Khalid Alsultani faced off Andy McCloskey, due to the luck of the draw, who was also one of the favorites for the title.
The second round was even more closely contested, with several matches going the full distance. Ajeya Prabhakar edged out Kirubanandh Rajendran, Sanaullah Ansari lost to Hasanain Khalid Alsultani, and Amit Karki defeated Leo Ma. Sam McGrath defeated Ernst C Bezemer, Karam Namek from Canada defeated Tan Jeremy Tandiary, James McCloskey lost to Raymond McCarthy, and Nitin Mehta defeated Sanjay Poudel.
The quarter-finals saw Hasanain Khalid Alsultani continue his good form, defeating multiple-time National champion Ajeya Prabhakar. Sam McGrath also reached the semi-finals, defeating Amit Karki. Karam Namek and Sargon Isaac also progressed, defeating Raymond McCarthy and Nitin Mehta respectively.
The semi-finals were both one-sided affairs, with Hasanain Khalid Alsultani defeating Sam McGrath and Sargon Isaac defeating Karam Namek.
The final was a close match, with Hasanain Khalid Alsultani eventually coming out on top to win 5-4. Sargon Isaac, also a winner of the US Nationals trophy multiple times, gave Hasanain his toughest challenge of the tournament, befitting a final. This is a great result for Alsultani, who will now go on to compete in the Q Tour Global Finals.
