Vito Puopolo is set to make his Crucible Theatre debut in 2023 after winning the 2022 PABSA Pan-American Seniors Snooker Championship in Toronto.
Canadian National Champion Vito Puopolo won the 2022 Pan-American Billiards and Snooker Association (PABSA) Seniors Snooker Championship held at Toronto from the 22nd to 25th of October. The tournament is represented by countries from North, Central and South America regions – players from Brazil, the United States of America and host nation Canada assembled at The Corner Bank for the event.
Puopolo began his playoff campaign with a 3-0 win over Jesus Batista Oliveria (Brazil) followed by a 3-0 defeat of Ajeya Prabhakar (USA) in the quarter-finals. Frank Ammirante (Canada) won the opening frame of their semi-final with the help of a 67 break, but Puopolo ran away with the next three frames to reach the final.
The other player in the final was defending champion Ahmed Aly Elsayed, the six-time United States National Champion, who rallied from 2-1 down to beat Jason Williams 3-2 in the other semi final match.
The title would this time be denied to Aly Elsayed as Puopolo won the final 3-0. This title win qualifies him for the 2023 World Seniors Snooker Championship to be held at the Crucible Theatre in May 2023.
